Complications of being overweight

Overweight is the condition of a person who is heavier than the standard average weight for his height. It can be concluded by calculating the BMI (Body Mass Index) of a person. BMI is a unit of measurement to describe weight in relation to height (BMI=Weight (in kg) / Height (in m2)). If the BMI is <18.5 its called under-weight, BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered normal and 25 to 25.9 is overweight. BMI greater than 30 is called obesity.

Overweight is caused due to excess intake of calories than actually required by a person’s body. The requirement of calories depends upon person’s age, nature of work, lifestyle etc. Persons who lead a sedentary life and involve in less physical work become victims of overweight. Poor nutrition, metabolic disorders and certain drugs may also lead to overweight.

Being overweight can lead to lot of complications. It is found that overweight is one of the causes for cancer. Overweight is also one of the major causes for preventable deaths in the World. Overweight may cause high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, breathing problem, gallbladder disease etc.
