Clinical Depression Causes and Treatment

Clinical Depression is a medical term used to describe the state of mind characterized by loss of interest, extreme sadness, hopelessness, inability to involve in activities of interest and which requires a Clinical Treatment. Clinical Depression is also known as Major Depressive Disorder or Unipolar Disorder.

Depression can last for few days, weeks, months or even life-long. It can occur gradually or also incurring. The condition is worse in children while compared to Adults as they may display different symptoms. Depression is a mental disorder that may affect anyone irrespective of gender, age, ethnicity etc.

Causes for Clinical Depression

The causes for Clinical Depression may differ from one person to another. But most common causes are physiological disorder of brain, separation from family or friends, love failure, poverty, stress in school, college or workplace, addiction to drugs, unemployment etc.

Symptoms of Clinical Depression

Persons suffering from Clinical depression display low mood, prolonged sadness, lack of sleep, weightloss, loss of appetite, chronic pain, digestion problem, lack of confidence, headache, losing interest in favorite activities, suicide attempts, thought of death, low self-esteem etc.

Treatment for Clinical Depression

There are various ways of treating Clinical Depression which may differ from one patient to other based on their condition. Psychotherapy is helpful in treating depression wherein a psychiatrist talks to the patient to analyze the causes, emotions or behavior for the mental disorder and encourage or educate the patient in overcoming such issues. Prescription of antidepressant drugs is much effective in treating Clinical Depression. Meditation helps in calming the mind and can be helpful to overcome the depression. Other treatments include electro-conclusive therapy, photo-therapy, acupuncture treatment etc.
