Anxiety attack

Anxiety is an emotion that occurs due to anticipation of some misfortune or danger. Anxiety is not a disease it is just the state of mind similar to happiness, sadness or fear etc. This reaction is formed in the subconscious mind by an organ called Amygdala.

Some of the common symptoms of Anxiety are difficulty in breathing, chest pain, headache, stomach ache, sweating, increase in heart beat etc. The symptoms are not permanent as they gradually decrease as the time passes on.

Anxiety can be classified into many types. For example a student who fears for failing in an examination is known as “Test Anxiety”. “Existential anxiety” refers to fear of death. Anxiety when meeting a stranger is known as “Stranger Anxiety”.

Anxiety can be avoided by thinking in a positive attitude, diverting your mind in some other activity, conversing with your friends or your family. Breathing exercises will also help to control anxiety. Inhaling deep breath and exhaling will calm the mind. Some other relaxation exercises are also advisable. For example counting backwards from 50 to 1 will divert the mind and also refresh one’s mind. Taking some fresh air outside your home or office should also work to control anxiety.
