Acne is a common problem found in teenagers, including male and female. Persons affected by acne really feel embarrassed as it spoils the beauty of their face. Acne can be classified in five types such as Acne Conglobata, Acne Fulminans, Gram Negative Folliculitis, Nodulocystic Acne and Pyoderma Faciale.
Acne is an inflammatory disorder of skin usually found in face and other parts like neck, back, shoulders and chest. Acne is formed due to excessive secretion of oil from sebaceous glands. Over-production of sebum is caused due to hormonal imbalances (for women especially during menstrual periods or pregnancy).
Excessive sweating can also be one of the factors which cause acne. Some persons naturally sweat a lot due to their body condition. For others it may be due working/ playing in hot sun or under high humidity.
Acne may also be caused due to chemical reactions arising because of using steroids, contraceptives or drugs that affect hormonal levels. Food allergies, bacterial infection or emotional stress are also reported to cause Acne.
Acne can be controlled thru various treatments. Wash your face regularly, keep it clean and hygienic. Avoid oily food stuffs or fatty foods. It is advisable to consume lot of water, eat green vegetables and fruits.
Acne can be treated using Topical Antibiotics such as Clindamycin, Erythromycin, Benzaclin, Duac, Benzamycin and Oral Antibiotics like Tetracycline, Doxycycline or Minococycline etc.
Isotretinoin is also prescribed to treat acne. But it is a powerful medication hence should be taken after consulting a Dermatologist. Isotretinoin is believed to cause some side effects. Pregnant women should avoid taking this. Laser and light based therapies (Photo-therapy) cure acnes and scars caused by acne.
